Mallorca's first grass tennis tournament, the WTA Mallorca Open, celebrated its final round on Sunday. German player Tatjana Maria defeated defending champion Anastasija Sevastova 6-4, 7-5.
Celebrated at the Santa Ponsa Tennis Club, this was Maria's first-ever WTA final. The German beat the WTA world no. 20 in a 95-minute match, winning 4 break points over the match. Thanks to her victory, she jumped two positions from number 50 to number 48 in the WTA ranking.
This year, attendees were in for a treat as Mallorcan champion and current ATP world no. 1 Rafa Nadal was training in the Santa Ponsa premises ahead of Wimbledon. The English championship starts next Monday. Vamos Rafa!
