A co-pilot has died after a serious crash during the Oris Rally Classic in Mallorca on Saturday. The crash occurred on the Coves-Campanet stretch of the rally just after midday.

"We sadly confirm the death of Jose Lumbreras del Cabo, co-driver and participant in this rally," said a statement from the rally's organisers.

The car burst into flames after it struck a tree just 5km into the race. Luckily the driver, Carlos Iscar, was able to escape from the burning vehicle and was taken to hospital where he is being treated but remains in a stable condition. Tragically the co-pilot was unable get out of the vehicle because his door was blocked by the tree.

Tributes to Jose have been flooding in across social network sites, showing support for his family and friends during this difficult time. His friends and work colleagues have organised an event that will take place this evening (Monday) to pay tribute to their late friend. The gathering will be at 20.00 at the Renault Iscar in Can Valero, where he worked for over ten years.

In addition, on Sunday 22nd March there will be another rally commemorating the 32 year old, Jose Lumbreras, where family, friends and classic car lovers will meet in Portals Nous from 11.00.

Our thoughts go out to his family and friends.
