Yacht Sinks off the Coast of Calvia
Seven people were rescued from the motor yacht before it sank
According to the emergency services, the yacht had begun taking on water and, in accordance with nautical protocol, vessels are advised to head to the Playa de Mago area of Calvia.
The shallow waters of that area can help to keep stricken vessels remain afloat until the maritime rescue services reach the scene. In this particular case the yacht crew and sunbathers joined forces to try and stop the vessel from sinking or crashing into the rocks before the emergency services arrived to take control of the situation.
The beach was then evacuated as a precaution although there was no obvious danger to sunbathers and no fuel spillage. The yacht was later removed by the insurance company and an investigation into the incident has been launched.
