El Sol Sunshine Bar, Son Serra de Marina

featured in Beach reviews Author Nicola Henderson, Site Editor Updated

The bay of Alcudia is well known for it's endless Playa de Muro beach. Not quite as well known is that the bay is excellent for wind and kite surfing. And just a a little bit further down the coast from Playa de Muro, the wind surfers and kite surfers have laid claim to one of the best places on the island to ride the waves.

Five miles to the east of Can Picafort, you will find an undeveloped beach, with just a couple of restaurants. No hotels or high rises here! The surfing crowd have always been a little bit cooler than the mainstream, and when they find a stretch of coastline that suits, they set up shop. Son Serra de Marina has been claimed by the surfers, one of whom has opened the quintessential beach bar. El Sol Sunshine Bar provides the ideal watering point for those who have been tackling the waves, and for those who prefer to watch whilst sipping a cold beer. With groovy chill-out tunes in the background, the setting is truly spectacular. A virgin beach, undeveloped coastline and the mountains of the Llevent Natural Park in the background, it is a wonderful spot for nature lovers as well.

El Sol serves food all day, creates cocktails for your pleasure and provides a free wifi service. Simple, unpretentious, and affordable, it really is the ultimate beach bar. It's open throughout the year from 10am until 10pm (midnight on Fridays and Saturdays). They have live music every Sunday lunchtime, and in the summer months there are DJ sessions and pizza deals on Saturdays.
