The clue is in the name! Meatclub is a restaurant that predominantly specialises in all things meat and should be at the top of any carnivores hit list on a visit to the tourist resort of Cala d’Or. Think burgers, steaks, ribs and more.

Mallorca has a number of very smart hotels linked to golf courses and spas. They tend to be housed in (very) grand properties surrounded by beautiful countryside, and offer a unique escape from everyday living.

The Frenchman is one of those people who puts great store by awards and medals, so when we did a search of Mallorca's best restaurants, and saw that a restaurant called Koldo Royo had held a Michelin star for 18 years, it went straight to the top of our list. Run by a chef of the same name, Koldo Royo had gained rave reviews and was considered a flagship restaurant in Palma. I said that I was sure it had closed down a couple of years ago. Nonsense, said the Frenchman, showing me pages from the web with reviews and contact details for the restaurant.

Port de Soller is one of our favorite places in Mallorca. It’s stunning horseshoe bay has turquoise blue waters and is framed beautifully by the surrounding Tramuntana mountains.

So another weekend, another drive around the tiny, narrow roads of Mallorca, with the Frenchman cringing every time a car approaches as he imagines the car swerving off the road and tumbling down some ravine. For the umpteenth time, I promise myself never to take him on a day out again.

The Corb Marie is a beautiful restaurant set slightly back from the pine walk in Puerto Pollensa, specializing in grilled meat and fish. There is a lovely garden area in front of the restaurant, with tables surrounded by flowers and trees and great views of the pine walk and the sea beyond.

Following suit, this resort hotel sits away from the beaten track of Mallorca’s tourist hot spots in favour of the island's captivating countryside.

Set just down a side road off the busy square of restaurants in central Puerto Pollensa, Neptuno will catch your eye with its deep blue walls and life buoy decorations, it’ll keep your attention with its special boards and tapas deals and by the time you’ve read those a friendly waiter will have drawn you in and found you a table.

In need of a rural retreat, we escaped to the Son Julia Country House Boutique Hotel for a couple of days as an early autumn break. Nestled in the foothills of north-west Mallorca sits the majestic Son Brull Hotel & Spa. Once a monastery, this imposing building has been beautifully restored and then modernised to create the classic old-meets-new interior - we were immediately impressed... You enter the hotel through the most enormous glass door, just opening it brought a smile to our faces with its sheer grandueur and weight; and continue into the inner courtyard where the horses were once kept.
