Es Rebost Restaurant Review, Palma

Great lunch spot in the heart of Palma's shopping area

featured in Restaurant reviews Author Mikey Bell, Updated

Lured in by their regular postings of delicious local produce on their Twitter account - I recently managed to pop in to Es Rebost in Palma centre to see if they are as good on-plate as online!

Styled as a cafe-come-deli on the shopping street of Avenida de Jaume III, Es Rebost prides itself on serving traditional, local produce - but there is a very cool and contemporary feel to proceedings. Arriving for a late lunch, I had a choice of tables outside - one has to make a slightly concerted effort to block out the traffic whizzing past, but otherwise it is a nicely comfortable and not-too-hectic spot.

My waiter seemed almost uncontrollably happy to be alive - the intrinsic Londoner in me found this initially disconcerting, but I soon warmed to it and he was hugely helpful in helping me connect to the wifi, as well as letting me know the ins and outs of the menu. Slightly pushed for time, I (unfortunately) wasn't able to dedicate enough time to every single item on the menu - probably a good thing in hindsight, as I would have had trouble choosing! Es Rebost really delivers on its promise of offering the best of local produce: sandwiches on home-made bread, Mallorcan hamburger, traditional bread rolls, soups, salads and various other little treats and titbits.

I opted in the end for the 'Equilibra' salad (8.95€): chicken breast, local cottage cheese, walnuts, mixed leaves and a dried-fruit vinaigrette, with a freshly-squeezed Soller orange juice on the side (2.50€). The salad was delicious, with large juicy slivers of chicken breast layered over the mixed leaves, and the other ingredients scattered liberally. The orange juice was (as it nearly always is in Mallorca!) sensational. The perfect light lunch in the heat, hustle and bustle of Palma centre.

Feeling frivolous, I ordered some white chocolate & lemon truffles, coated with hazelnuts as a dessert (3.95€). 6 of the chef's finest balls (behave...) were delivered promptly, and were a real treat. A lovely combination of richness from the white chocolate, with lighter touches from the lemon and hazelnut flakes.

All in all, I have to say this is a fantastic little lunch spot in Palma, at very reasonable prices. They also have a seriously delicious-looking deli inside, stocked with an array of local treats - so you can pick up some ingredients to try and re-create the menu yourself later on! Not content with just providing good food, Es Rebost has an 'iPad Corner' - with several iPads available to their customers, and can also provide universal mobile phone chargers - in case you need a little top-up!

Definitely worth stopping in if you're in Palma - and please let me know how the rest of the menu tastes!
