Landslide Causes Closure to Soller Tunnel in Mallorca

Palma de Mallorca to Sóller Tunnel Closed for Five Nights for Repair

Landslides have caused damage to the Sóller tunnel that links Palma de Mallorca to the popular towns of Sóller and Port Sóller.

Work has been scheduled to begin on Sunday to repair the damage to the tunnel but in the mean time the tunnel will remain open during the day and the work will take place at night between 11pm and 6am.

The Consell has stated that there is no danger to users of the tunnel but recommends using the Col du Sóller, the windy road that climbs the hill the tunnel cuts through, rather than the tunnel itself. The Col is a spectacular road and popular with cyclists. If you are not in a rush to get to Sóller it is worth making the trip over the hill but it will not be popular choice with anyone who suffers from car-sickness.

The work is due to be completed by July 11th and normal service in the tunnel will resume then.

Port du Sóller is one of our favourite places on Mallorca and Barbara Streisand was spotted there this week. You can find out why Hollywood legends and seemallorca reporters like Port Sóller so much on our Puerto de Sóller in Mallorca page.
