A suspected serial rapist has confessed to attacking two British women in the popular resort of Magalluf in Mallorca. The 30 year old Moroccan waiter was arrested on Friday after months of undercover police surveillance.

The two incidents had been linked by DNA evidence. The first took place when, in May 2008, Cheryl Maddison was raped and left for dead shortly after arriving in Mallorca to start a new bar job. The second attack on a British tourist took place in August last year. The suspect initially denied involvement in the attacks but ended up breaking down and confessing to both.

The investigations are continuing as police try to link the suspect to a string of attacks over the last three years. In all six women have been raped in the resort in similar circumstances.
