Mallorca's beautiful National Park of Cabrera, the small uninhabited archipelago south of Colonia St Jordi, will be powered completely by a solar power system. The Cort yeasterday approved the plan to make the island self sustaining and awarded the contract to install and maintain the photovoltaic cells to Climatización Energía y Ahorro (Climate, Energy and Saving).

The project will cost €90 000 and should be completed in the next two months but the company are responsible for maintenance for the next two years. The idea is that the island will be powered by the solar cells with a back up diesel generator in case of emergencies.

Although no one lives on Cabrera it is a popular destination for yacht owners as it's clear waters, cliffs and underwater caves are some of the most beautiful in Mallorca. If you are looking for a special day out during a trip to Mallorca then a visit to Cabrera will make a memorable day out.
