Opened on June 19th, the 6,000 square-metres San Juan Gastronomic Market is a place to enjoy gastronomy from all points of view. Besides the 17 gourmet food stalls, there is also a cocktail bar, a café, a patisserie and a kitchen area for all sort of events that have anything to do with great food.

It is located in a beautiful protected modernist building, part of the cultural and commercial complex of S'Escorxador for which architect Gaspar Bennázar won in 1906 the First Prize at the National Arts Exhibition. The market is set in the old slaughter house, which has been through a 2.4 million euros renovation using recycled materials. The interior design studio G4deco have created different spaces using the building's cross-shaped plan.

The central square has been turned into a street-food market, with a large seating area and very high ceilings. Here visitors will find 17 stalls offering a wide range of world cuisines, from the local 'llonguets' (traditional Palma bread sandwiches), to Basque pintxos, Spanish pickles and 'tortillas', fresh oysters and shellfish, Ibérico ham, grilled Wagyu beef, and even Thai and Japanese food or gourmet burgers. In one of the arms of the cross you can find a Nespresso café and French patisserie and bakery, the first to open early in the morning.

There is also a cocktail bar, the 'San Juan Cocktail Club', connected with the central square but independent. It's a great place to spend the evening enjoying some after-work (or after-sightseeing) drinks. Inside the bar there is a stage that will be hosting all sorts of events: concerts, shows, wine tastings, courses, conferences, book presentations...

All of this can also be enjoyed on the terraces, a great place to chill under the Mediterranean sun or to celebrate parties and events without disturbing any neighbours.

Finally, the upper floor has been turned into a space called 'Cooking4People', a large kitchen to celebrate events like cookery classes, wine tastings, photo shoots or, why not, a hen do!
