Balearic Airports Break All Records this Year

The number of passengers is the highest ever registered

The Balearics continue to make their way as one of Europe's most beloved holiday destinations. In the first 8 months of 2015, Palma airport has received 2.1% more travellers than last year, with Ibiza reaching a stunning 8.7% rise.

Mallorca's Son Sant Joan airport welcomed more than 3.7 million tourists in August, amounting to a whopping 16.8 million from January. Germany is the starting point of the largest number of passengers, with the UK in second place and Spain in third.

Ibiza airport, on the other hand, has registered an even larger growth with 1.3 million passengers in August, 2.4% more than 2014. Spanish travellers make up the largest number of arrivals, British being the second, while Italians close the top three.

The island hosts all sorts of events, including agricultural fairs in the spring and autumn, live music and DJs in the summer, religious fiestas and international sporting events. Some of the most popular are the Mallorca 312 cycling race in April, the Copa del Rey sailing regatta in July and the Moors vs Christians mock battle in September.
