Mallorca's luxury hotel revolution
More upmarket accommodation available every year
Mallorca's hotel industry has experienced an authentic revolution in the last 20 years. According to the Federación Hotelera de Mallorca (FEHM), 4 and 5-star hotels have largely surpassed 1 and 2-star hotels during this period, advancing the island's accommodation offer up to the higher end of the scale.
20 years ago, only over 12% of the hotel beds available in the Balearic islands had a 4 or 5-star rating. Nowadays that number has risen to 43%, almost half of the total, while 1 and 2-star hotel beds now add up to just over 7%.
This outstanding increase in luxury accommodation has been possible thanks to the more than 1000 million euros that have been invested in hotels on the Balearics. More and more 5-star hotels have also opened on the island's shores, attracting affluent visitors.
