Mallorca, better in winter 2017

2 new Blade Runner-inspired videos to promote the island

The Balearic government have released two new videos to promote the region during the winter. Taking advantage of the recent release of the film 'Blade Runner 2049', they start with an actor imitating the replicant Roy Batty's (Rutger Hauer) famous last words under the rain: "I've seen things you people would not believe..."

Gorgeous snippets of the most beautiful natural spots and monuments in the Balearics are shown in the videos. Some of them can only be enjoyed during the winter months such as the Ses Fonts Ufanes springs in Mallorca (near Campanet) which pour out after heavy rains.

The same happens with Palma Cathedral and its "Double Rosette". This spectacle occurs when the sunlight shines through the church's main rose window projecting its brightly colourful round shape on the opposite wall, just underneath another rose window, creating thus an 'eight' shape. The phenomenon takes place only twice a year, on the 2nd of February and the 11th of November.

Other landmarks include Ibiza's Es Vedra, the magical rock that rises from the sea on the south-west coast of the island and is the backdrop of many sunset pics, or the Cuevas del Drach, a splendid collection of underground stalactites and stalagmites near Porto Cristo in Mallorca. The unique ecosystems of the Posidonia Oceanica seaweed prairies that surround the islands and the wetlands that attract birdwatchers every year to Mallorca are also some of the videos highlights.

Check them out the above and below and escape to Mallorca this winter!
