Many thought that Manacor-born Rafa Nadal was at the end of his career after a rocky 2016 due to ensuing injuries. But the superstar player has proved them wrong this year by winning his 16th Grand Slam and reclaiming the ATP's number 1 spot.

2017 has been an unbelievably remarkable year for Mallorca's most celebrated sportsman. Nadal started his winning streak with a victory at the Roland Garros French Open in June. Yesterday he proved why he has been named one of the best players in history by dominating the match against Kevin Anderson, which ended with a score of 6-3, 6-3, 6-4. Among the crowd watching the US Open's final were Tiger Woods, Robert Redford, Diane Kruger and Tony Bennet.

Not only that but Nadal got to the world number 1 in August, an event that has coincided with Spanish player Garbiñe Muguruza making it to the women's number 1 slot thus crowning Spain as the current top country in the tennis kingdom.

It seems that the reign of the Manacor local star is far from over... Congratulations, Rafa!
