The Swiss Manuel Wyss crossed the finish line in first place, with a time of 2 hours 43 minutes, while the Mallorcan Sebastiana Llabrés was the first woman at 2 hours 59 minutes, an impressive achievement considering this was her first marathon.

The race saw 9500 runners from different countries competing around the streets of the city in a marathon, a half marathon and a 10 km course. Around 45% of the athletes came from Germany, while a 20% were British.

Heat was a handicap for many of the runners who came from foreign countries and were not used to such warm temperatures in October. The scenic route goes via the seaside promenade for 12 kms and then through the city centre, with a total elevation gain of 250m.
