La Vieja Restaurant

Tapas with a twist of the Canary Islands at this quirky restaurant

featured in Restaurants Updated

A vibrant restaurant by renowned chef Jonay Hernández.

Here, head chef and owner Jonay Hernández is imaginative with food, his concept is to creatively bring the Canary islands into tapas and use top quality products, add plenty of character to this quirky restaurant in Plaza Raimundo Clar.

Even the walls are adorned with graffiti!  The cuisine is based on some of his childhood memories and on his personal growth as a chef in Mallorca.

Some of the chef's Canarian secrets include the homemade mojo picón sauce and the specific potatoes from the islands. Expect to find innovative dishes, like the ‘duo of roasted cheese tartlettes: 1. Truffle and palm honey 2. mojos cannelloni filled with Canarian ‘ropa vieja’.  Ropa vieja is a Spanish phrase for shredded beef, chickpeas and tomatoes.

There’s a ‘loin of angus beef marinated in smoked mojo with crazy papas and majorero cheese’, plus the less spicy ‘squid tartar, palm pepper sriracha and creamy shrimp mojo’. For dessert, peeled potato (frangollo) with ‘barraquito’ cream with black soil, which is, of course, a nod to the classic volcanic soil of the Canaries.
