A packed theatre saw the Pirates Charity Gala Event last night raise over €50,000 for the Great Ormond Street Children’s Hospital. In it’s seventh year, the event is supported by British celebrities, local residents and visitors to the island. The evening started with a chance to view the prizes that would be won in the charity auction.
Out of all the many food festivals that are held on Mallorca throughout the year, The Frenchman and I were most eagerly awaiting the Tapalma tapas festival (7-11th October 2010). I mean, seriously, who wouldn’t want to crawl round dozens of Palma’s bars and restaurants, eat their best tapas at bargain prices, and wash it all down with lashings of discounted beer and wine? It sounded like the grown-up version of a student pub crawl.
Mallorca is not massively famous for the wine it produces, overshadowed as it is by the Rioja's and Crianza's from the Spanish mainland. However, vineyards cover many hectares of Majorca, from the foothills of the Tramuntana mountains to the central plain towards Manacor and the east of the island.
Rottehullet is a small bar with a big personality in the heart of Cala Major. Sandwiched between a kiosk and a kebab shop, you'd be forgiven for thinking it nothing special. However, if you head inside you'll find tasty tapas, an exciting selection of beers and spirits, and one of the friendliest barmen in Mallorca.
Puerto Pollenca is not known for its raging nightlife but if you know where to look you can find yourself a few good spots for an evening out. One of the best places to go for a relaxing cocktail with a view is The Lemon Lounge on the Puerto Pollenca waterfront.

There are so many options for a night-out in Palma de Mallorca. Each neighbourhood of the city has a distinct feel and offers something a little different. A few nights ago the Canadian and I took a late night stroll along the beach in front of Palma's cathedral to the edge of Portixol to have a few drinks and try one of the restaurants there.
Situated beside the idyllic Illetes beach, Las Terrazas Beach Club attracted 1,200 guests who were treated to a free bar, a flying buffet and DJs playing until the early hours.
Nightlife in Palma is generally a laid back affair; the warm summer evenings are just made for relaxing with friends on one of the many pavement cafes. And one of the best place to do this is in the arty shabby-chic district of Santa Catalina.
Mallorca’s south west coastline boasts some of the most prestigious ports on the island, including Port Portals, Port Adriano and Port d’Andratx.
The people of Mallorca, like their mainland brothers, love a fiesta. Almost every weekend there seems to be a saint or a historical event that requires face paint and explosions, or at the very least a market. The Fiesta Sant Joan in Mallorca celebrates the life of John the Baptist and in Majorca Sant Joan is a very big deal. Every other street, shop and restaurant seems to be named after him, he's the Patron Saint of four towns and he even has a town named after him.
If you’re looking for a peaceful and elegant spot for an evening drink then look no further than Gin & Tonic Corner, the quite little cocktail bar of the stylish Hotel Illa D’Or, located on Puerto Pollenca’s Pine Walk area.
On Saturday 25th July Pollenca played host to another round of Ampfest, a rock concert showcasing local rock and punk bands from Pollenca, Sa Pobla and Campenet.
Bar Atlantico has an exciting new cocktail menu with flavours that will thrill your taste buds. Opened in the 50s by an American marine, the bar still retains its original feel with every inch of its walls covered in mementos, shields, flags, number plates and felt-tipped messages from over fifty years of happy customers.
Last night at Mallorca Rocks in Magaluf Kasabian played the best gig of the summer, so far. The lads from Leicester took to the stage in a whirl of lights and strobes and kicked off with "Days are forgotten". Right from the start the crowd at the Majorca beach resort were looking forward to a party, this was the second birthday of Mallorca Rocks and Kasabian were a perfect choice to celebrate the anniversary.
After a fairly hedonistic weekend of parties, late nights and frivolities it's good to finish a Sunday with something calming, relaxing and healthy. In the Palma area one of the best ways to end the week is at the Zhero Hotel Barbeque.
