A great set from Kasabian in Majorca's Magaluf

Last night at Mallorca Rocks in Magaluf Kasabian played the best gig of the summer, so far. The lads from Leicester took to the stage in a whirl of lights and strobes and kicked off with "Days are forgotten". Right from the start the crowd at the Majorca beach resort were looking forward to a party, this was the second birthday of Mallorca Rocks and Kasabian were a perfect choice to celebrate the anniversary.

With sunglasses on and swaggering like a Mancunian who's just won the pools the lads looked every inch the rock stars everyone had come to see. They played a set full of new hits and old favourites; "Shoot the runner", "Velociraptor", "Processed Beats" and "Club foot" and "Rewired" were all on the set list and Serge and the boys had the crowed bouncing, hands in the air.

When it came time for the encore I wasn't sure what they had left but the last few tracks were the best of the night. "Switchblade smiles" was belted out at the Mallorca Rocks crowd and the chunky guitar riff and rat-a-tat drumming had everyone on their feet before they closed the night with an extended "On fire".

The energy of the band and the energy of their music, both new and old, made last night's gig so good. They were the perfect band for Mallorca Rocks, like the Stone Roses they sound like ravers who have picked up guitars; rock with a dance edge. It makes the prospect of seeing the band that started it all, The Happy Mondays, who will play Mallorca Rocks on the 21st August, all the more exciting.
