Royal Beach Lounge Restaurant Review

An eclectic menu at an idyllic spot on the beach

featured in Restaurant reviews Author Anita Gait, Mallorca Reporter Updated

Relax in elegant, funky style in the Royal Beach lounge, bar and restaurant located right on the beach at Platya de Muro.

Let yourself be lured off the beach by the cool floating white gauze curtains and spinning silver decorations that adorn the large terrace of the coolest beach bar in town. Wander in through the dunes and make the biggest decision you’ll have to make all day, where to sit?

Royal Beach has provided a magnificent variety of bar seating, do you want to be out on the sun deck on an over sized white plastic sofa? Would you rather lounge in a deck chair or on a wicker sofa on the semi-covered terrace? Or do you want to be civilized and sit at a real table in the glass walled restaurant and watch the bar tenders hone their craft? The choice is yours, take your time, every spot comes with a great view out over the beach and all the way over to Port D’Alcudia.

Once you’re comfortably ensconced in the chair of choice your next head-scratcher is the menu, do you fancy Japanese, Mexican or Spanish? The eclectic snack menu, perfect for lunch, features burgers and sandwiches, nachos and quesadillas, sushi and gyosa, patatas bravas and pamboli, all of which come beautifully presented and are not too expensive, the most costly item on the snack menu is the €15 Oriental tasting platter and it is well worth it. 4 California sushi rolls with soya sauce, wasabi and ginger, 4 gyosa Japanese dumplings drizzled in sweet chili sauce and two chicken teriyaki skewers sticky with extra dipping sauce, this plate is where its at for lunch or as a starter to share.

If you’re after making a night of it you’ll be hard pressed to over look the set menu, 3 courses for €18 it changes daily but features such delicacies as beef carpaccio, monkfish ravioli with king prawns, and mango foam with white chocolate cake. If you can resist that then the full menu offers a light selection of seafood and salad starters, focusing on raw and fresh ingredients, all around €12.

Mains are anywhere from €12 to €22 covering pasta, pad thai, risotto, seafood, steak and pork cheeks for the brave. Save some room for desert though because there’s yet another decision to be made although it’s probably got to be the ‘assortment of chocolate textures’ every time!

The whole menu is available whatever time of day you choose to eat so if you fancy a three-course lunch or a light sushi dinner the choice is there, but what ever you eat you’ll want to accompany it with a cocktail. The bartenders are constantly busy behind their fresh fruit laden bar, as they chop, crush and shake their way to cocktail art, whether it’s a balloon glass of frozen fun, a stripy blue and red concoction dotted with cherries or a fruity little number garnished with star fruit they clearly take great pride in their work and it’s hard not to try a few different creations. It’s also worth noting that many of their cocktails come in an option of sizes from normal up to 5 litres! You might need to write off the rest of your day’s plans after one of those!

Royal Beach is a great place to sit back and relax whatever time of day you drop in, the location and décor is fabulous, the food to die for, the drinks beautiful and the wait staff - whilst not over chatty, are efficient and deferential in their service. The bar hosts live music regularly and is open all week until 2am, this restaurant/lounge/bar is well worth a visit. It’s worth booking a table for dinner if you want to sit in the restaurant or want the best view. Check out their facebook page for great pictures of the food and cocktails and for details of up coming music and events.
