The Lemon Lounge Review, Puerto Pollensa

Late night poolside cocktails in Puerto Pollenca

featured in Nightlife reviews Author Anita Gait, Mallorca Reporter Updated

Puerto Pollenca is not known for its raging nightlife but if you know where to look you can find yourself a few good spots for an evening out. One of the best places to go for a relaxing cocktail with a view is The Lemon Lounge on the Puerto Pollenca waterfront.

The Lemon Lounge is a late night, open air cocktail bar located inside the hotel Daina’s iconic swimming pool area. The large pool is situated across the promenade from the hotel main and it projects out into the sea on its own private stone jetty. The pool is surrounded by seating areas and sun loungers there’s a dedicated bar as well as showers, toilets and changing areas. By day it is sunbathing central for guests of the Daina hotel and holiday apartments but by night it becomes The Lemon Lounge, a classy spot to gather for pre dinner drinks or midnight cocktails around the illuminated sapphire pool whilst listening to the chilled out DJ tunes or live music.

The cocktail menu is extensive and includes all the traditional favourites at a cost of €5-€7, the measures are generous and the glasses large, the strawberry mojito is a firm crowd favourite and the mimosa comes with the glass rimmed in strawberry sugar and topped with fresh fruit. There’s a good list of ‘mocktails’ as well for any one not partaking of alcohol and these come just as nicely presented in bubble glasses topped with fruit and garnish.

True to Mallorcan form the gin menu is vast and you can choose your gin and tonic from a list of standard gins like Gordans, Tanqueray or Bombay Sapphire or venture into the premium gins like Seagrams, Martin Miller’s or Hendrix. The bar is similarly well stocked with vodka and rum collections so if you like your premium spirits then this bar’s got you covered. Beers, soft drinks wine and champagne are also available.

The lounge has waiter service all night so you need only choose where you wish to sit and wait for them to come to you, you have multiple seating options including tall bar stools, wicker sofas, sun loungers and the very cool tall blue tiki bucket chairs that are dotted around the pool. There’s covered seating at the far end and straw parasols above many of the tables in case you fancy some shade during your evening drinks or in case of the (very occasional) evening shower, I sat and had drinks here during a midnight lightning storm and it didn’t lessen the crowd’s enjoyment one bit. We all sat under the far awning and ooohed and ahhhed at the lightning as though it were an organised firework display!

You can sit along either side of the illuminated pool but if you head to the far end you can sit and look out over the water of Puerto Pollenca bay which is a beautiful sight in the evening as the sun sets. You can also look along the length of Puerto Pollenca’s desirable Pine Walk area and watch the crowds of tourists and locals alike who like to take a dinnertime stroll along the waterfront promenade.

Open until 3am The Lemon Lounge is a popular spot for after dinner drinks attracting the residents of the Diana hotel back for a night cap before bed, but with it’s live music nights and DJ’s it also attracts non residents to gather in the early hours for drinks in the beautiful location. Anything goes with the atmosphere; most nights it’s a mellow lounge of customers enjoying cocktails and conversation but dancing has been known to break out amongst the tables and so long as no one ends up in the pool it’s all well and good.

Head to The Lemon Lounge at Hotel Daina for well-priced, well made evening cocktails in a beautiful outdoor spot with a great view.
