There will be a total lunar eclipse on Wednesday 15th June and, according to the National Astronomy Observatory, one of the best countries in the world from which to observe it is Spain, in particular the Mediterranean coast and the Balearics.

Lunar eclipses occur when the moon passes into the earth's shadow. Whilst still visible, the moon takes on a reddish, coppery glow.

This eclipse is set to last over one hour and 40 minutes making it the longest in over a decade. It is also expected to be one of the darkest ever experienced. The complete cycle, including the penumbral and partial phases, will take over five hours. It will be at its height at 10.14 pm.
