The remains of a Roman villa were recently discovered in Son Servera, the small town near the east coast beach resort of Cala Millor, Mallorca. The remains are a major find for Majorca as they represent not only an important period of the islands history but also a potential tourist attraction in the future.

The ruins date back to the first and second century AD. They were found by workers who were building a new bike lane in Son Servera and have already been covered to protect them as a team is assembled to excavate the site which has been described as "exceptional" and "unique".

There is a long, slow process ahead in unearthing the Roman villa and plans to improve and extend roads in the area have been altered to maintain the integrity of the site.

When the villa will be open to the public is not yet clear but hopefully it will add to Majorca's rich Roman heritage. Roman ruins in Alcudia are already open to the public.
