In total Spain has been awarded 577 Blue Flags for its beaches, with the criteria being focussed on water quality and proper environmental management, but also accessibility for disabled and the existence of health and rescue services.

Although Spain has increased as a whole, the area that has seen the largest decline are the Balearic Islands, losing a total of 11 flags.

Those beaches on Mallorca that have lost this distinctive are Cala Sa Nau (Felanitx), Palmira and Cala Viñes (Calvia), Arenal d'en Castell and Son Saura (Es Mercadal). With regard to ports that have lost their Blue Flag these are Sant Antoni de Pormany in Ibiza and in Mallorca Cala Bona, Port de Pollença, Port d'AndratxPort Adriano and Porto Colom.

On the upside the beach of Es Figueral in Santa Eulalia, Ibiza, has recovered it's Blue Flag after losing it in 2014!
