The Paseo Marítimo in Palma is the city's main artery. Also known as Avinguda Gabriel Roca, this wide sea promenade connects the Parc de la Mar in front of the cathedral with the area of Porto Pí. Plans have been set in motion to upgrade the avenue and make it friendlier for pedestrians and cyclists.

No visit to Palma de Mallorca is complete without a walk along the Paseo Marítimo. For over four kilometres, the promenade runs along the sea in front of luxury hotels, trendy clubs and modern bars while offering views not only of the glistening Mediterranean waters but also of Palma's most iconic sights: its Gothic cathedral and the Bellver Castle.

The town council has just announced their plans to convert this emblematic avenue into a lush pathway by reducing the number of traffic lanes and parking spots in favour of more trees and wider pedestrian walkways as well as cycling paths. Works will start next year and will cost around 8 million euros. The first phase will focus on the area between Palma Auditorium and Monsenyor Palmer street, the Nou Llevant district and the port will later be renovated.
