Artdemossa is a magical evening dedicated to art and culture which takes place in the picturesque town of Valldemossa. On 22nd July from 18.00, an exciting concoction of music, dance, poetry and gastronomy will attract thousands of visitors to the Tramuntana.

Medieval flags and colourful streamers decorate the pedestrianised avenues and the delicious smell of Mallorcan pastries wafts in the air. It's a festival which will appeal to all your senses and immerse you in the sounds and flavours of the island.

Like most Mallorcans festival, Artdemossa is a family-friendly affair which kicks off with magicians, acrobats and jugglers. The traditional wooden giants of the town, 'els gegants', are taken out for a twirl and all the ingredients of a typical Mallorcan festival come together to create a wonderful atmosphere.

Artists and artisans from across Mallorca are given a special welcome. The flagstone streets fill with stalls where they can display their work and spaces are allocated to them to demonstrate their craft. The public will be able to observe different techniques and gain insight into the artists' creative process.

You can expect all sorts of styles in painting, photography and sculpture. A highlight last year was the inspiring installation called, '1001 caps', a metaphor for coexistence, which brought together 1001 clay heads created by forty nine different artists.

Theatre, dance and music are all part of the entertainment, with performances carried out in the squares and street corners. It is well-known that classical composer Frederic Chopin resided in Valledmossa and was inspired by the town and surrounding landscape. There is even a classical festival named after him which takes place in August. However, Artedmossa is quite different as it brings together a whole range of genres. Expect to hear everything from acoustic guitar, jazz and gospel, to classical choir and percussion bands.

Street, squares, museums and gardens; the whole town becomes a stage for creative expression. There are readings and plays, poetry recitals and interpretative dance. As the evening draws in, the play of light and shadow makes everything feel even more magical. If you've been meaning to visit this beautiful town, Artdemossa is a great time to see it come to life. The festival goes on until late with DJs and dancing.
