What's on This Week: 7th June 2013
Walk with the living and the dead and party at the opening of CREAM with Paul Van Dyke
Last week we saw opening parties for Hed Kandi, Mallorca Rocks and Nikki Beach this week we have plenty more to look forward to with Superclub openings, garden parties, more festivals and walks with both guides and the undead.
First off is Zombiewalk. This Saturday, 8th of June, the 2013 Mallorca Zombiewalk will take place. These parties are becoming more and more popular and if you love Hollow'een but can't wait until October to get dressed up then this event is for you. Dress up as a zombie and join the march from 6pm at the Cavart Club. If you don't have your own liquid latex and fake blood then arrive a little early and have your make-up done for you. Tickets for the walk are available from Musicnote and €10 let's you join in the fun and gets you entrance to the after party and a drink – probably not blood.
Far more genteel and refined is the Garden Party at La Residencia on Sunday 9th. La Residencia is one Mallorca's most relaxing and beautiful hotels and the garden is home to sculptures and flowers. Pimms on the lawn, live music, strawberries and cream and other things that made Britain great will be available in the Deia sunshine. Tickets cost €25, the dress code is smart casual and the party will be from 4.30 until 7pm.
Another slice of summer on the west coast of Mallorca comes in the form of the Soller Orange Festival. This annual celebration of Soller's favourite fruit runs until the 16th June and there are twenty restaurants involved in producing special menus during the festival. Set menus are available throughout Soller and Port de Soller and a special discounted train and tram price can be added to the cost of lunch. Make the most of the deal if you are coming from Palma and enjoy the old railway from the capitol to the coast and then try lunch in one of the participating restaurants.
Over in Magaluf the second of the Mallorca Rocks Gigs of the summer will bring Rizzle Kicks back to the stage on Tuesday 11th. Always fun. The doors open at 19:00 and the boys will take to the stage at about 22:00.
The following night BCM in Magaluf will open the doors to CREAM. The first of the world famous club nights will be hosted by Superstar DJ Paul Van Dyke. Tickets are available from the BCM website and cost €35.
My last pick of the week is a guided tour down the Torennt des Porreis. This is one of Mallorca's most popular walks and the scenery and route down the dried up river bed is astonishing. Huge cliffs tower over either side of the gorge and boulders the size of vans block the path. The walk finishes at the beautiful Sa Colobra which featured in the movie Cloud Atlas.
The walk is amazing and worth the effort but it is not easy and a guide is essential if you have not been down before. Luckily Mallorca Hiking are offering a walk on Sunday 16th June, you will need to be fit and able to walk and scramble over uneven ground for five hours but if you like an adventure contact Mallorca Hiking by Friday 7th at the latest.
