Beware of Continued High Temperatures on Mallorca

August set to be just as hot as July as heatwave refuses to end

Once again this week the authorities have warned of unseasonably hot weather across the island of Mallorca with temperatures reaching 36 degrees inland and only a few degrees cooler on the coast.

Of course the temperature outside at midday feels much much hotter than this if you are in direct sunlight! A few weeks ago we reported that July was the hottest on record in Mallorca, with the same being said of many other parts of Spain and Europe.

On Tuesday a woman was rescued by the Civil Guard on the island of Se Dragonera, as she was dehydrated and unable to walk by herself. Carried by rescuers, she was put in a helicopter and flown to hospital in Mallorca for treatment.

This one incident shows the perils of any kind of exercise in this heat. Advice as always is to  try and keep cool,  especially in the heat of the day, drink water regularly (at least 3 litres), take cooling showers, close curtains and shutters during the day and air the house/apartment/room in the cool morning.
