Formentor goes car free this summer 2018

Cars banned in Cap de Formentor in July & August

The famous winding road that connects Formentor Beach and the Formentor lighthouse will be closed to cars in July and August from 09:30 to 19:00. To access the area, there will be regular shuttle buses.

The Formentor peninsula is one of the most iconic spots in Mallorca. Standing right on its edge, atop Cap de Formentor, is the lighthouse, a beautiful 19-century building that is one of the most visited locations on the island despite its challenging road access. Hundreds of cars take this road every summer so the local authorities have decided to restrict access during the day in July and August to avoid traffic problems.

Shuttle buses will depart from Port de Pollença and stop at the Creueta viewpoint, Formentor Beach, Cala Murt and Cala Figuera before arriving at the lighthouse. Parking is available in Port de Pollença and Formentor Beach. The road, well-known among bike enthusiasts for its hairpin bends and breathtaking views, will also be open to cyclists who will enjoy pedalling on the virtually empty tarmac this summer. Another way to get there is by sea as there are several companies offering boat trips around Cap de Formentor from Port de Pollença and Port d'Alcudia.
