This was his 17th Grand Slam singles title and a record-breaking 11th win at Roland Garros, tied only with Margaret Court's performance for singles. The King of Clay is currently ranked world number 1 by the ATP.
Born in Manacor, a rural town in central Mallorca in 1986, Nadal is undoubtedly the island's most celebrated sportsman.
