Mallorca hotels shooting for the stars

Hotels on the island under renovation to raise their star rating

featured in News & reviews Author Ana Hernández, Mallorca Editor Updated

The Mediterranean island of Mallorca is undergoing a hotel revolution this winter which will result in an improved accommodation selection in the summer. Traditional holiday resorts like Magaluf, Santa Ponça and Cala d'Or will lower their package holiday offering for a more upmarket experience.

We already knew that Magaluf was going through a 5-year regeneration plan involving extensive investment from private companies and the regional government to turn the area around. The famous party town will become more family-oriented and offer a wider selection of high-end hotels, including the first 5-star hotel in the area, Viva Zafiro.

Cala d'Or, the well-known holiday beach resort on the east coast, is getting a new four-star, adults-only hotel. Under the name Alua Soul Mallorca, this establishment will emerge from the combination of the current Skorpios and Corfu hotels in Cala Egos. Over 1.3 million euros are being invested in order to renovate their rooms and add a whole range of services. Other hotels in the area are improving their facilities, including Cala Esmeralda and Roc las Rocas aparthotel.

The 3-star Santa Ponsa Pins in the popular holiday resort of Santa Ponça is also turning into a 4-star hotel under the management of Melia. A swimming pool, fitness room and conference hall will be added to the establishment to improve its facilities.

It seems like 2017 is going to be the best season yet in Mallorca with most of the hotel rooms already booked for the summer. Wait no longer to book your accommodation on the island.
