Nine restaurants in Mallorca have been awarded Michelin stars in the ceremony that took place yesterday in Girona (Cataluña). Two new Mallorcan starred restaurants have been included in the 2017 Spain & Portugal Michelin guide, confirming the unstoppable rise of the island as a foodie destination.

Gastronomic Mallorca has two new Michelin stars: the innovative restaurant of chef Adrián Quetglas in the centre of Palma, and gourmet seafood Argos restaurant in Port de Pollença lead by chef Álvaro Salazar. Zaranda, the highest-rated restaurant on the island, has retained its two stars, thanks to chef Fernando Pérez Arellano's innovative take on traditional Mallorcan cuisine.

The remaining six stars are scattered along the island's coastline: Es Fum near Palmanova, Simply Fosh in Palma, Es Racó d'Es Teix in Deià, Jardín in Port d'Alcudia, Andreu Genestra in Capdepera and Es Molí d'En Bou in Sa Coma.

Nine restaurants in Spain have achieved the coveted three stars, while twenty-eight boast two stars, five of them in Portugal, and a hundred and sixty-six have one star.
