Beaches in Mallorca — 3 of Our Favourites

Here, you will find two separate areas of beach. Whether you arrive on foot, bicycle or by water… Sa Calobra first presents a small 30m stony beach, engulfed by local restaurants serving great and simple beach food. Follow the paved path to the right and you will come to a short, narrow, and well-lit tunnel only accessible on foot. This 1km burrow leads you to the main attraction at the head of the Torrent de Pareis.

A 30m narrow entrance to the seashore sits between theatrical high cliffs on a bed of gravelly sand. A stream separating this area from the rest runs behind here, bordering a much larger stony area beyond.

Unsurprisingly given its remote location, there are no facilities on offer here so bring something comfortable to sit or lie on. There are however a good selection of bars and restaurants, public toilets, and a First Aid point back at the initial pebbly bay of Sa Calobra.

There are a number of terraces which are popular with artists as they set up their easels for a day of painting. The sea is wonderfully clear and inviting and perfect for cooling off in on a hot summer's day. The beach is mainly made of rocks and pebbles with a few patches of gravel. The beach is served by two excellent restaurants serving fresh seafood and traditional Mallorca food where you can sit and enjoy the spectacular surroundings. The BBC Series, 'The Night Manager' was famously filmed within one of the restaurants here which has put one particular restaurant on the international map.

The bay is sheltered by high cliffs that lead into pine forests. There is a small jetty, but the bay is not considered suitable for anchoring thanks to the sometimes strong northerly winds. You can drive down a small lane to access the beach (sign-posted Cala Deia, on the outskirts of the town heading towards Soller) but the pay parking is quite limited and you might be better to leave your car in the village and take the walk down the perfectly maintained path to the beach (note it is a steep hill so be prepared for the return journey!).

Those who want to be based near Cala Deia, the local town just up the hill is well-heeled and full of traditional Mallorcan character, boasting some splendid boutique hotels in keeping with this theme. The hills around Cala Deia are dotted with traditional country houses converted into charming, modern villas that are popular for larger groups. Having attracted the rich and famous for decades, it should come as no surprise that there is a whole host of gourmet restaurants in this town. There are a couple of little supermarkets and some small boutique shops selling artisan goods, jewellery and more.

With the Serra de Tramuntana mountains as a backdrop, this area of Mallorca boasts exceptional natural beauty. There are also a handful of stately homes, religious buildings and museums to visit. These mountains are the perfect place to explore on a bike, a horse or just on foot. When you're feeling tired, book your massage at a local spa.

Located in the town of Port de Soller on the northwest coast of Mallorca, the expansive bay of Soller offers the only sandy turf along Mallorca’s western coast. This popular tourist destination and lovely resort offers two beach areas within its horseshoe shaped bay, surrounded by natural beauty and the Tramuntana mountains, the golden sands, clear blue seas and superb sea views all make it one of Mallorca’s top beach destinations amidst some of the island’s finest scenery. A train runs directly from Palma to Soller which connects hourly to the vintage tram taking you directly down to the port, making the bay easily accessible from the island’s city centre. Restaurants
The Port of Soller is lined with a variety of beach bars and restaurants. It’s a superb place for sundowners with a sparkling sea view. Make sure you book in advance over the busy summer months, or you could be left with your second (or more likely third) choice of restaurant!

Nightlife
Being a relatively quiet and peaceful coastal town, the beachfront bars and marina area are about as lively as it gets. That be said, the bay is full of ambience with an intimate and relaxed atmosphere, lots of live music and occasional DJ performances. Livelier evening entertainment can be found in some of their trendiest hotel bars, but if you’re after anything more than cocktails up to midnight, Palma is only 40 minutes’ drive away.

Hotels
Known for its tranquillity and natural beauty, it’s no surprise that Soller possesses a selection of hotels to choose from, varying from affordable to 5*. Eco-friendly boutique hotels can be found in the narrow streets behind the beach, with luxury brands boasting clifftop terraces overlooking the entire bay.
