Picturesque and charming beach on the west coast of Majorca with breath-taking scenery.
The Port of Soller offers the only sandy beaches on the west coast of Majorca. This lovely little resort offers two beaches along it's horseshoe bay, all with golden sands and clear blue seas.
Located in the town of Port de Soller on the northwest coast of Mallorca, the expansive bay of Soller offers the only sandy turf along Mallorca’s western coast. This popular tourist destination and lovely resort offers two beach areas within its horseshoe shaped bay, surrounded by natural beauty and the Tramuntana mountains, the golden sands, clear blue seas and superb sea views all make it one of Mallorca’s top beach destinations amidst some of the island’s finest scenery. A train runs directly from Palma to Soller which connects hourly to the vintage tram taking you directly down to the port, making the bay easily accessible from the island’s city centre. Restaurants
The Port of Soller is lined with a variety of beach bars and restaurants. It’s a superb place for sundowners with a sparkling sea view. Make sure you book in advance over the busy summer months, or you could be left with your second (or more likely third) choice of restaurant!
Nightlife
Being a relatively quiet and peaceful coastal town, the beachfront bars and marina area are about as lively as it gets. That be said, the bay is full of ambience with an intimate and relaxed atmosphere, lots of live music and occasional DJ performances. Livelier evening entertainment can be found in some of their trendiest hotel bars, but if you’re after anything more than cocktails up to midnight, Palma is only 40 minutes’ drive away.
Hotels
Known for its tranquillity and natural beauty, it’s no surprise that Soller possesses a selection of hotels to choose from, varying from affordable to 5*. Eco-friendly boutique hotels can be found in the narrow streets behind the beach, with luxury brands boasting clifftop terraces overlooking the entire bay.
Surrounded by the Tramuntana mountains, the region is well known for its hiking, cycling, scenic trails, breath-taking viewpoints and panoramic views of the coastline. The promenade encircling Port de Soller is perfect for leisurely strolling whilst watching the trams roll in and out of the bay. In the narrow streets filled with numerous shops, boutiques and cafes, you can also find a local maritime museum - ‘Museu de la mar’. Port de Soller serves as both a great beach day out or a fantastic resort from which to base yourself when exploring the rest of the island.
The town of Soller is just a short tram ride up from the port, with a further selection of restaurants and cafes in its central hub - Plaza de la constitución. Other places of interest to visit here include, the restored Art Nouveau building – Can Prunera, housing a permanent collection of fine art with temporary exhibitions, The Balearic Museum of Natural Sciences and the Jardí Botànic, home to Mallorca’s many plant varieties and just a short walk from the town’s centre.
The water in this bay is very sheltered, so you can usually expect calm, shallow waters along the shore making it perfect for families and children. Lifeguards are on duty in the summer months.
On the south side of the bay, ‘Repic’ beach is Soller’s largest and deepest sandy area at around 250 metres long and fairly shallow at 20 metres deep, meaning that space is sometimes hard to come by. ‘Es Traves’ beach, towards the harbour side of the bay was extended in the spring of 2012, increasing it to around 300 metres in length. The sand here is coarse and gravelly rather than silky soft, but the beach is generally kept very clean and tidy despite the summer swarms. Amenities are abundant with sunbeds and parasols available to hire, showers and public bathrooms on the beach, as well as easy access for the disabled and strollers.
Popular with private yachts in need of shelter from western swells, the water in the bay remains calm, not only offering a safe anchorage but making it perfect for kayaking, paddleboarding and snorkelling. The marina offers several boat trips and boats or jet skis available to rent.
From Palma, it’s a quick and beautiful 30 - 40 minute drive up the Ma-11 through the tunnels under the mountains. There’s a stunning alternative hair-pin route for enthusiastic cyclists over the top of the Coll de Sóller. Otherwise, the most popular way to arrive in Soller is by the historic train - Tren de Sóller from the main city centre station - Estació Intermodal, located near Plaça d’Espanya. It takes around an hour with breathtaking views of Mallorca’s countryside. The tram down to the port leaves from Sóller train station down and takes around 20 minutes through the charming valley.

Sóller is a botanist’s and enthusiast’s paradise. The Botanical garden is found in a country estate known as “Camp d’En Prohom”, on the outskirts of Sóller. Its primary purpose is to preserve rare or endangered species of the Balearics, and is the result of many years of study and hard work, and now hosts one of Spain’s most extensive wild flora seed banks.
This museum is a naturalist entity dedicated to exhibiting and conserving the natural heritage of the Balearic Islands and making the general public aware of the importance of its preservation.
Housed in a wonderful Modernist building, Can Prunera was built in the early 20th century and the museum was opened on 24 August 2009. The vast majority of works on display at this museum belong to the Fundació d’Art Serra.
The vintage carriages are still in use, providing a fantastic opportunity for tourists, and a relief for locals from the terrors of the old Palma-Soller road.
The Serra de Tramuntana mountains (translated as the "mountains of the north wind") run the length of Mallorca's northwestern coastline extending for almost 90km and claim some of the island’s most magnificent scenery. In 2011, it was declared a world heritage site by UNESCO under the cultural landscape category.
Poet and author Robert Graves (1895-1985) lived in Deià, Mallorca, from 1929 until his death. He is buried in the churchyard on the hill next to the church.

The Son Muntaner golf course forms part of the Arabella golf complex in Son Vida, to the north west of Palma de Mallorca. Created in 2000 by Kurt Rossknecht, the course is considered one of the more challenging on Majorca. The fairways and the greens have carefully placed bunkers and some water hazards that require the golfer to place their shot as accurately as possible. With beautiful views down towards Palma and lush Mallorcan landscaping, Son Muntaner provides a glorious environment in which to play golf. The green fees are accordingly, on the high side.
Santa Ponsa Golf Club consists of two 18-hole and one 9-hole golf courses. More than just a golf club, it is a resort where you can buy villas & apartments so to have golf on your doorstep. Of the three courses, the 18-hole Santa Ponsa I is open to the public - Golf Santa Ponsa II & III are for members of the club only.
This golf club is located next to the sea in beautiful natural surroundings. The course was designed by John Harris and opened originally as a 9-hole course in 1967.

There are two courses at Son Antem Golf Club - the masterpieces of Francisco López Segalés, one of Spain’s leading course designers. Since 1990, he has designed courses in all the major resort areas of Spain. With Son Antem, Segalés has garnered rave reviews from professional golfers and vacationing ones alike.
Port de Sóller is a picturesque little village situated in a large horseshoe bay on the west coast of Mallorca. The seaside retreat was, until recently, one of the island's best-kept secrets.
Set in a lush valley of orange groves between the mountains and the sea, Sóller has been popular with day trippers for some time. Arriving on the vintage train from Palma there is plenty of taking things easy, sitting outside the cafés in Plaça Constitució soaking up the atmosphere and the sun. With several tapas bars, a fine selection of pastry shops, local ice-cream, and freshly made drinks, there is little temptation to move on.
Fornalutx, at the top of the Sóller Valley and deep within the Serra de Tramuntana mountains, calls itself the prettiest village in Spain and it's hard to disagree!
You could easily miss Mallorca's smallest village, which consists of little more than a bend in the Deia to Soller road.
Deià is an idyllic village of green-shuttered, honey-coloured houses that has become a millionaires' hideaway resting in the shadow of the Teix mountain, part of the Serra de Tramuntana mountain range. It may have been just another pretty west Mallorcan village had the famous English poet and novelist Robert Graves not decided to make it his home in the 1940s, raising its profile somewhat.
