Cavalcada dels Reis Mags (Three Kings Celebration)
The Spanish always saved their present giving and celebrating to mark Epiphany, the 12th day of Christmas. On the eve of the Epiphany, 5th January, the Kings (the three wise men who followed a star to find the baby Jesus) form part of a procession of floats through many towns in Mallorca. Sant Antoni Festival
Sant Antoni is the patron saint of animals and jobs connected to rural life. Some towns celebrate this saint with a local holiday and fun parades and street parties. Dates & details.
Festes de Sant Sebastiá, Palma
This is one of Palma's biggest festivals of the year. Sant Sebastiá is the city's patron saint, and a variety of recreational activities are held in his honour. The city comes to life with the squares hosting bonfires and concerts late into the evening. Semana Santa (Easter Celebrations)
The triumphant arrival of Jesus Christ into Jerusalem is acknowledged throughout Mallorca, starting with blessings on Palm Sunday and parades throughout the week. Easter Thursday sees the biggest parades to celebrate Easter, with the most colourful being in Palma de Mallorca. Good Friday is the day when many churches hold special services where local children and youth groups perform scenes from the bible to commemorate the death and rebirth of Jesus. On Easter Sunday, churches throughout Mallorca hold special services. The following days see 'pancaritats' held; these are pilgrimages to Mallorca's shrines and hermitages, which are followed by mass picnics.
Palma International Boat Show
A must for nautical enthusiasts, this boat show takes place in the wonderful setting of Palma's marina, in front of the cathedral. The exhibits are more for the professionals but anyone can access the marina (for a fee) and soak up the atmosphere. Dates & details.
Mallorca 312
The island's most popular cycling race, and the most challenging, takes riders through the Serra de Tramuntana's gruelling climbs offering stunning views of the mountains and the sea. Annual Village Fiestas
Many of the smaller villages hold their annual fiestas in August. Some of the most popular are the Festes de la Mare de Deu d'Agost in C'an Picafort – a summer festival on the beach, with fireworks and a bizarre rubber duck release on the sea; the Festes de Sant Bartomeu in Montuiri – one of the oldest on the island featuring devil dancing – and Valldemossa; the Festes de Sant Agustí – summer festival with parties, a night of art, fireworks and a 'correfoc' (fire run) as well as Cavallet dances in Felanitx, with children dressed up as cardboard horses being chased to the accompaniment of bagpipes, flutes and drums; or the Festes de Sant Jordi taking place around the main square in Colonia de Sant Jordi. Nochevieja & Año Nuevo (New Year's Eve)
