GR221 Dry Stone Route

Popular 8-day trek up the mountainous western side of Mallorca

Categorised in:

This famous walk runs from Port d'Andratx in the south west of Mallorca, all the way to Pollenca in the north west, following ancient cobbled paths through the Tramuntana mountain range. The 135km hike generally takes eight days and there are hostels located at the end of each stage for hikers.

The path is lined with dry stone terraces (hence the name) where olive trees have been grown for centuries. The first couple of stages are not yet officially part of the route, although progress is being made to include them. Around 10% of the route runs through private land so care must be taken not to trespass. Again, the government is negotiating with land owners to ensure public right of way.

Stages:

1. Port d'Andratx to Sant Elm La Trappa (3 hours 45 minutes)
2. La Trappa to Estellencs (7 hours 15 minutes)
3. Banyalbufar to Esporles (7.6 km)
4. Esporles to Deia Refuge de Can Boli (6 hours 30 minutes)
5. Deia (Can Boi) to Port Soller (Muleta) (10.1 km)
6. Port Soller (Muleta) to Refuge Tossals Verds (28 km)
7. Refuge Tossals Verds to Lluc (Refuge Son Amer) (15.1 km)
8. Lluc (Refuge Son Amer) to Pollenca (Refuge Pont Roma) (16.7 km)

A guide is recommended for this route, please see our Guides & Tours page.
