Hills through the lovely countryside of the south west of Mallorca
A fairly easy cycle with a few hills to get the lungs and heart going - be careful of the midday sun!
Start from the roundabout in the centre of Santa Ponça and go in a NE direction through the entrance to the town. Go through the first roundabout until you reach the crossroad with the main dual carriageway. Follow the sign in the direction of Calvia and you will follow a quiet road, riding through the countryside. After going along some 1.5 km, you will reach the crossroads with the main road which will take you to Calvia and you turn left into it. You still have 2.5 km to go before you arrive there.
Once in Calvia, continue straight ahead until you reach a fork where you will see that you have to turn left in the direction of Es Capdella. You will go through a very pretty area and after 3 km you will reach this small village, which is worth having a look round. Afterwards, you start the section to Peguera which is easier as it is downhill. Just before reaching it, you arrive at a roundabout with a sign showing the way to Peguera. From then on, the route is obvious.
The return journey can be made by the main road whose bends and hills will require renewed effort. You can avoid the main road by cycling through Costa de Calma from Peguera to Santa Ponsa. This involves an off road section from Peguera to Costa de la Calma for a short distance of about one kilometre.
Points of Interest: In Peguera, you should visit the pretty beach of Cala Fornells, surrounded by enormous pine trees. Calvia church dates back to 1245 and the history of the town is shown on tiles in the Library. Capdella holds its fiestas in July and it is worthwhile having a look at this small village.
Itinerary: Santa Ponça - Calvia - Capdella - Peguera
Distance: 26 km there and back
Difficulty: Varying - some hills, take a cycle with gears
