It’s June 14th, which means today’s the day football fanatics have all be waiting for: the 2018 FIFA World Cup tournament kicks off in Russia! If you are holidaying in Mallorca, fear not, you can still cheer on your country in front of the TV screen.

Mallorca is even sending a local to Russia. Marco Asensio, attacking midfielder for Real Madrid and Spain's national team, could become one of the World Cup superstars.

From sports bars to prestigious beach clubs, all sorts of places will be showing the world cup on the island. Here are some of our top picks.

Where to watch World Cup 2018 in Mallorca

Palma

If you find yourself in Palma over the next month, you will be spoilt for choice when it comes to watching the football extravaganza. The Three Lions, as its name suggests, is the obvious place for the British to watch the World Cup. It’s located on the Paseo Maritimo, making it easy to find, and has plenty of screens both in and outside on the terrace but it does get busy so make sure you get down early to grab a table. Just around the corner, you will find Hogan's which is where the expats like to hang out; with 14 giant screens, there will no doubt be a lively energy here. In the heart of Palma, Lennox Bar, near Passeig des Born, will also be a good place to stop and watch the football.

East of Palma

For those based out towards the airport, in Playa de Palma or S’Arenal there are also plenty of bars along the seafront showing the football. For mega-screens, head down to Mega Park. As it’s predominantly a German resort, it's well worth coming out here for the Germany games when there is an immense atmosphere.

West of Palma

Veering out towards Cala Nova (near Cala Major and Illetas), head down to Mojo Beach, a hybrid bar, cafe and restaurant which has various screens showing sport throughout the day and into the evening and tends to attract expats living in the local area. Just up the road, in Portals Nous, Heroes Sports Bar – Grill – Lounge will be the place to rub shoulders with other international football fanatics over the course of the World Cup. Or, if you find yourself in Puerto Portals and want to catch a game, then Reeves Café & Bar is your best bet.

In Palma Nova, you will find that JJ Sports Bar is a good place to sit in the sun and soak up the views of the bay, as well as watching the football. As you can imagine, there are plenty of sports bars scattered all around Magaluf where extra police will be patrolling the streets during and after games. Popular spots include Linekers, Mambo’s. Pirates Reloaded is reported to have the biggest screens in Magaluf and, if you are looking to make an event of it, there will be a Live DJ before kick-off and half-time plus table service drinks. To kick off the World Cup in a more sophisticated fashion, we would highly recommend attending Nikki Beach’s World Cup Party on Saturday 16th June.

West Mallorca

In the West, the town of Port de Sóller is less about sports bars and more about practising (water)sports but has a couple of bars showing the games. Bar Ocea is a great option on the seafront. Aside from the football, it has a lovely chilled-out vibe, fabulous food and is great for a spot of people watching along the promenade.

North Mallorca

Up in the north of the island, the widely popular Port de Pollença has Mulligan's Irish Bar, a top spot for watching the games and they serve good food and British beer as well. Port d’Alcudia is a much bigger tourist resort so you will find more places showing the football. Legends Sports Bar is the place to go to truly get into the spirit of things, as you will be surrounded by signed memorabilia and they have got lots of fun World Cup inspired events and competitions going on.

East Mallorca

In the East, head for tourist hotspots like Cala Millor or Cala d’Or to catch the England games. In Cala Millor, Sportsmans Bar is the ultimate place for any devoted World Cup fans but the Gunners Arms is also worth a shout and will be showing all the games too. In Cala d’Or, there will certainly be a few places showing the football games and Lindleys Bar is renowned for its great atmosphere during World Cup season. Quarterdeck Café Bar boasts a pretty setting, with a terrace overlooking the marina but also has screens inside showing the football. So perhaps the ladies can sit and enjoy the sun in a glorious setting, whilst the men watch the football.
