Colonia de Sant Pere Beach,

1. Colonia de Sant Pere Beach

Location
Colonia de Sant Pere

A lovely sandy beach to soak up the rays, away from the large scale tourist resort beaches in the north of Mallorca.

The beach of Colonia de Sant Pere claims fine golden sand and crystal clear waters. It's located next to the port and the small town of Colonia de Sant Pere's seafront promenade in the Bay of Alcudia.

There are no sun lounges and sunshades to rent at the beach, so bring your own things to provide for a comfortable day out at the beach. Showers can be found at the edge of the beach. A jetty protects the beach from the waves although it is advisable not to get too far from the shore, as this bay doesn't have a lot of protection from the waves and this area is quite popular amongst surfers.

The town of Colonia de Sant Pere is relatively small, but offers enough to keep the locals content throughout the year and has a good selection of restaurants open in the summer months, especially along the promenade. There are just a handful of hotels in this area, but quite a few holiday homes and apartments to rent.

It is not a problem to find a parking space in the streets behind the beach, even in the peak summer time.

2. Son Serra de Marina Beach, North-East Mallorca

Situated between the towns of Can Picafort and Colonia de Sant Pere at the eastern end of Alcudia’s bay, lies the small seaside resort of Son Serra de Marina. The beach here is called ‘Sa Canova’ and is often referred to as a ‘Dreamland’ thanks to its hazy mountain views and luminescent sea.

The beach is 450 metres long and is very deep, at 130 metres. It backs on to natural sand dunes and countryside - no built up coastline here! In the background you will see the hills of Llevant Natural Park. It has been known for nudists to frequent the quieter spots of the beach.

There aren't any sun loungers to hire here, in fact the only service you'll find are showers. However, there is a beach bar/restaurant which should meet all your refreshment needs.

You can stay in Son Serra de Marina - it's very quiet and pretty basic. Your alternatives would be the rural, characterful town of Arta or the holiday resort, Port d'Alcudia.

3. Son Baulo Beach, Ca'n Picafort

The beach at Son Baulo is a good antidote to the heaving masses and consumerism of neighbouring Ca’n Picafort. Still busy and still boasting everything you need, Son Baulo has managed to retain some character and a bit more class than its larger and better-known neighbour.

Situated a short walk from the southern point of Ca’n Picafort in northern Mallorca, Son Baulo is the newest part of the larger town. Built in a more modern and generally more tasteful style than the rest of the town, it has its own sandy cove of a beach which is less busy than its neighbour.

Hotels
There are a number of hotels and apartments just set back from the beach and there are numerous options including four star hotels in adjacent C’an Picafort,  most noticeably one that backs onto the beach and has its own restaurant, pool and beach access.

Restaurants
C’an Picafort has a number of bars and restaurants offering Mediterranean and international cuisine as well as supermarkets, pharmacies and souvenir shops plus an evening craft market from 6pm -11pm in the Summer months.

Nightlife
Certain beach bars here are open until 10pm and there are several cocktail bars just set back from the beach. For those heading towards C’an Picafort, you will find numerous cocktail bars, some featuring music until late.

4. Cala Torta Beach, North-East Mallorca

Location
Arta

An idyllic bay situated between Cala Mesquida Beach and Cala Mitjana on the northeast coast of Mallorca.

This beach attracts a good mix of locals and tourists and can get busy during the peak holiday weeks, but most of the time you will find that this relatively hidden cove is quieter than most of Mallorca’s north coast beaches. Its trickier access makes it less suitable for people with restricted mobility or a clan of small children, with several others simply deterred by the walk on a hot summer’s day! The bumpy road to the track is also notoriously bad and should only be attempted by 4-wheel drives.

Restaurants
There are no restaurants and bars on the beach, except for a small, shaded kiosk selling drinks, snacks and freshly caught fish, so make sure you pack a picnic and water if you’re intending to spend the day here.

Nightlife
There’s unsurprisingly no nightlife here on the beach itself or its immediate surroundings, but the nearby towns of Arta and Capdepera are great places to travel on to.

Hotels
There are no hotels surrounding this beach, but the resort of Cala Mesquida is 2km along the coast. A luxurious retreat hotel is just over 7km away encouraging their guests to connect with the surrounding nature and their inner selves. Several hotels are available in the nearby town of Arta.

Cala Mesquida Beach

5. Cala Mesquida Beach, North-East Mallorca

Cala Mesquida is a fairly remote beach, located in the north-east of Mallorca, around 15km from Arta and famous for its picture-perfect beach with lovely white sand and crystal-clear waters.

The beach is 300 metres in length and over 100 metres in depth. Home to one of the largest colonies of gulls and Balearic cormorants, the area is protected due to its importance for bird life. This is why the east side of the beach still exists purely of natural sand dunes and pine trees, upon a hilly background still free from development. A small resort lies on the west side, with a few local shops and restaurants.

Whilst there are no showers or toilets, there’s a great selection of luxury sun loungers with parasols available to hire.

Restaurants
At the back end of the beach, you’ll find a large and popular restaurant, as well as a beach bar in the central part of the beach.

Nightlife
The nearest towns, Capdepera and Cala Ratjada, offer a variety of nightlife from casual sundowners to all-night clubbing, but don’t expect to find much late night activity in Cala Mesquida itself.

Hotels
Being a petite and relatively unspoiled holiday resort, it is composed of a handful of resort hotels catering for tourists, some are adult only and some are family friendly.

Canyamel Beach

6. Canyamel Beach, North-East Mallorca

Canyamel beach gives visitors a small but perfectly formed, golden sandy beach within the quiet
holiday resort of Canyamel.

The coastline here is less built up than in other areas of Mallorca, offering a chance to sit back and soak up the beautiful Balearic countryside from the Mediterranean shore.

This beach is just under 3km long and provides sun beds and parasols for hire, as well as public toilets and showers.

Restaurant

A beach bar offers simple refreshments alongside two local cafes and the nearest shop being close by. The small, town centre has a further variety of shops, restaurants, and small supermarkets.

Nightlife

An incredibly peaceful holiday destination, Canyamel is not renowned for having a vibrant nightlife. If you’re after a wider selection of evening entertainment, you will find it in the nearby towns of Capdepera and Arta.

Hotels

The closest place to stay (apart from Canyamel itself) is Capdepera or Arta. (Arta has a great market that specialises in arts and crafts every Tuesday.) You’ll find only a handful of hotels within the town itself, plus a beautiful 5-star luxury hotel on the outskirts. The majority of guests tend to stay in private holiday accommodation.
