Also known as Platja de Sa Ràpita, an alternative to Es Trenc is the beautiful neighbouring beach at S’Arenal de sa Rapita in the southeast of Majorca. It is much quieter than Es Trenc, and is popular with families, surfers and windsurfers.
Sa Rapita Beach, South Mallorca
Lovely white sand beach with turquoise water in the south-east of Mallorca
This unspoilt beach is around one kilometre long and consists of fine white sand. The clear shallow water is a beautiful shade of turquoise making it a picturesque and inviting destination. Well-equipped to cater for the enthusiastic tourists, there are sun loungers and parasols for hire, as well as showers, toilets and lifeguards are on duty.
Restaurants
There are some beach bars and restaurants along the shoreline, particularly at either end of the beach with refreshments and local and international cuisine. These establishments all have outdoor seating areas where you can unwind and enjoy the beach view whilst sipping on your favourite drinks. At the west end of the beach towards Sa Rapita, you'll find the highly regarded Sa Rapita Yacht Club.
Nightlife
Known for its natural and tranquil atmosphere, whilst it’s far from a bustling nightlife destination, there are some options available for summer evening entertainment if you venture further afield. Campos or Llucmajor offer a livelier nightlife experience only a short car journey away. Primarily a destination for relaxation and enjoying one’s natural surroundings, nightlife options in the immediate vicinity are more limited compared to other areas on the island.
Hotels
While it may not have as many hotels as larger tourist destinations, there are still a few options for accommodations in and around Sa Rapita. A couple of hotels are situated near the beach with comfortable rooms, outdoor pools and in house restaurants perfect for a beachside getaway. The neighbouring town of Colonia Sant Jordi is also a short drive away offer further various accommodation options.
Setting & Location
Situated in the municipality of Campos, 11km from Campos and 12km from Llucmajor, the beach is about a 35-minute drive from the city of Palma. Backing onto sand dunes and pine forest makes it one of the more beautiful natural beaches in all of Mallorca.
Within the Es Trenc-Salobrar de Campos Natural Park, it is in an area home to a diverse range of flora and fauna, featuring protected sand dunes, wetlands and offering excellent opportunities for nature walks and bird watching. Often associated with Es Trenc Beach given their close proximity, Es Trenc is notably one of Mallorca’s most famous ‘natural’ beaches and can be accessed via a short walk west or a quick boat ride
Water Safety & Clarity
You will find the water here to be clear and shallow, perfect for younger children or the less adventurous swimmers. The beach is manned by lifeguards during the peak season and busy summer months. Waters are generally calm and suitable for swimming and other family friendly water-based activities.
Beach Quality
The postcard-perfect sandy beach stretches for 1.5km and offers ample space for relaxation, sunbathing and beach sports. The soft, powdery white sand invites its visitors to walk barefoot, enjoying its wonderfully smooth texture. Further complimented by its turquoise waters, sand dunes and coastal vegetation, the surroundings create a natural and picturesque backdrop. Its sand dunes help to protect the beach’s ecosystem adding to the overall beauty of the area, with the opportunity to explore local nature trails whilst observing the local wildlife. As an added bonus on a clear day, you’ll have breath-taking views of Cabrera Island in the distance.
Watersports Nearby
Sa Rapita Beach is a popular spot for various relaxing water activities. Here, you can rent kayaks, paddleboards and other water sports equipment to better explore the coastline whilst enjoying the crystal-clear waters. The beach's steady winds also make it suitable for windsurfing and kiteboarding.
Directions
Sat between Campos and Llucmajor, during the peak summer season, Sa Rapita Beach can attract a significant number of visitors, so arriving early is recommended to secure a good spot. Parking may be limited, so using public transportation or arriving by bike or taxi can be more convenient alternatives.
There is a pay-as-you stay car park by the beach if you’re approaching from Ses Covetes on its eastern side or from the village of Sa Rapita to its west.
