This uninhabited island off Mallorca's western tip was the focus for a turning point in Mallorcan history in 1977, when it was occupied by environmentalists protesting against a planned tourist development. The campaigners won, the island became a nature reserve instead, the seabirds survived, and for the first time the authorities realised that mass tourism had reached its limit.

Bodegas Son Puig is a small family-run winery producing wine from the Son Puig estate in the Puigpunyent valley, located within the Serra de Tramuntana in Mallorca. A limited series of wines are made from manually picked grapes grown exclusively onsite. 

This country house, just west of Esporles, is on a site known since Roman times for its natural spring. Since 1447 it has been a private house owned by various noble families; most of what you see today dates from the 17th century.

The painter and sculptor Joan Miro spent most of his life in Barcelona, but both his wife and mother were Mallorcan and he always longed to return to the scene of his childhood holidays to draw inspiraton from what he called "the light of Mallorca".

The town of Andratx is located in a valley on the southwestern tip of the Serra de Tramuntana mountains. Surrounded by orange groves and almond trees, which leave a 'snowfall' of blossom each February, Andratx is a pretty, sleepy rural town that embodies the authentic Mallorca.

On the southwestern tip of Mallorca is where you will find Port d'Andratx, a picturesque fishing village as well as one of Mallorca's classiest holiday destinations. Calvia town is the administrative centre for the southwestern region of Mallorca. The region is said to be the richest municipality in Spain. It hit the jackpot when tourists discovered the nearby beaches, and developments like Magaluf and Palma Nova were built.

Set deep in the countryside of the Tramuntana mountains, this pretty village lies 460m above sea level and is in the shadow of the great peak of Puig de Galatzo.
