Below are our four favourite and probably the most popular activities in Mallorca, but there are plenty more to choose from.
1. Boat trips & sailing: With more than 250 beaches and coves, breathtaking cliff edges and turquoise waters, there is no better way to explore the island’s beautiful 554 kilometres of coastline than from a boat. The main ways of doing this are, depending on your budget, to charter a yacht, hire a boat or book a boat trip with one of the many companies located all around the island.
2. Watersports: Mallorca is the perfect holiday destination for watersports thanks to its warm summers, island breezes and scenic coastline. There are plenty of watersports centres offering equipment hire and lessons in activities like sailing, scuba diving, wakeboarding and kite surfing all around the island. Alternatively, thrill seekers can enjoy rides in speedboats, jet skis or banana boats.
3. Hiking: Once the summer season is over, Mallorca becomes a hive of activity for walkers and hikers. The dramatic Serra de Tramuntana mountain range in west Mallorca and the more modest Serra de Llevant mountains in the east boast the most popular hiking routes on the island but, even if walking and hiking in Mallorca have become more popular in recent years, most paths and routes are still very quiet. There are relatively easy paths suitable for beginners, whilst other hiking trails take you to the five summits that reach over 1000m, perfect for keen walkers looking for a challenging route.
4. Cycling: Many professional cyclists choose Mallorca as their training ground during the off-season, especially from February to May. However, the island offers something for every cyclist, from some of the most impressive and demanding climbs to leisurely rides. Bike hire shops and cycle-friendly hotels have popped up all around Mallorca in recent years making it one of the best destinations in Europe for two-wheel aficionados.
