A medieval castle turned into luxury hotel
First mentioned in 1450, this site consists of various properties united in the 18th century to form a 132-acres estate. The current buildings, reformed in the 19th century, have been lovingly restored in 2013 to open as a luxury hotel that includes beautiful gardens.
The hotel consists of various buildings and stables, surrounded by wonderful gardens and overlooking the Tramuntana Mountains. The extensive grounds are populated with typical flora from the island, including olive, almond and orange trees, as well as bergamot, vetiver, jasmine, coriander and roses, all creating a very special scent.
There is an assortment of suites to choose from, some with a private garden and pool or a living and dining area, and all of them with lovely views. There are also various rooms with balconies and overlooking the historic courtyard and the French Renaissance fountain, or the Arabic courtyard-garden.
There is also a wide range of sports and leisure activities to choose from, with professional and individual instruction. Besides a small gym and tennis court, they have meditation, yoga and Qi Gong, as well as a morning fitness programme. The panoramic pool has breathtaking views over the mountains, and there is a pool bar serving snacks and refreshments.
The hotel offers a package for cyclists. Guido Eickelbeck, ex-pro rider, is available upon request to offer individual tours with quality road bikes along the coast or to the nearby Tramuntana Mountains. Care and technical service are included. For those who rather work out alone, Eickelbeck rents GPS devices besides the high quality lightweight carbon bikes, programmed with up to six individual tours.
They also have a number of additional services such as medical assistance, excursions, car rental, babysitting, boat trips, golf course reservations, or scenic flights.
The quiet, secluded spa includes an indoor pool, sauna and Moorish hammam with essential oils. They offer beauty and relaxation treatments with natural products, some of which can be enjoyed in the rooms.
The Castell Bar is located in the former chapel of the estate, decorated with a harmonious fusion of history and modern art. During the day, a wide selection of coffees and teas is being offered. After sundown, the Castell Bar offers an extensive and exquisite range of beverages.
During the summer months drinks and cocktails are also being served on the terrace.
Restaurant Zaranda, which has been awarded a Michelin star, offers truly exclusive gastronomic pleasures at highest level. Using market fresh, local ingredients as well as spices and flavours, Fernando Pérez Arellano and his team prepare extraordinary culinary compositions.
The restaurant, which is decorated with pieces of local art, literally offers a view into the kitchen, so guests can catch a glimpse of the chefs at work. In the summer the tables of the restaurant are arranged in the romantic courtyard of the Castell, making this the centrepiece of the evening events. High-quality wines from the hotel’s private and well-stocked cellar complement the menu perfectly.
The Terrace-Restaurant Olivera welcomes guests with a breakfast buffet ‘a la casa’ in the morning and serves light Mediterranean dishes as snacks during the day as well as lunch. In the evening, Olivera transforms into a place that offers the typical Spanish-Mediterranean cuisine a la carte offering specialties such as paella or tapas, as well as variations with an oriental influence dating back to the former Moorish dominance. They also pack picnic baskets.
