Best beaches to visit in Mallorca this summer
The island of Mallorca boasts more than 250 beaches around its beautiful coastline, many of them with the prestigious Blue Flag. From long stretches of golden sand to secluded rocky coves, there is something for everyone.
What you can be sure of is that they all boast turquoise, crystalline waters which are at the perfect temperature for some swimming or to try out a new watersport. To help you decide which to visit on a trip to the island, here are our top picks.
North Mallorca - long, beautiful beaches
The north of Mallorca has some of the longest stretches of golden sandy beaches the island has to offer. Resorts are always close by, between which you will find more tranquil coves and bays with crystalline waters.
Playa de Muro Beach - Mallorca’s very own paradise
A long 6km stretch of sandy beach meeting idyllic turquoise waters, Playa de Muro beach sits between Port d'Alcúdia and Can Picafort. There is a more upmarket feel to this area thanks to its surrounding resorts but space is plentiful, making it a haven for children wanting to play. Port de Pollença Beach - a watersports beach

The sandy beach boasts a picturesque mountain backdrop and a relaxed atmosphere. Playa de Alcúdia Beach - the largest beach on the island
When you see Alcúdia Beach you can understand why Port d’Alcúdia resort has become so exceedingly popular amongst holidaymakers visiting the island. Playa de Alcúdia is the largest beach of all of the Balearic Islands with its 7km stretch of soft sand meeting the islands notorious turquoise waters. Cala Formentor Beach - a celeb hot spot
At the most northerly point of Mallorca resides one of the island's most well-known beaches. Thanks to some famous visitors like Audrey Hepburn and Charlie Chaplin over the past century, Cala Formentor has become a haunt for some of Mallorca’s most affluent tourists. The soft sandy beach itself is 1km long but extremely narrow, with many points only being 8m wide, and is bordered with lush vegetation and pine trees, providing natural shade to its patrons and a truly sublime paradise setting.

Sa Calobra Beach - Mallorca’s worst kept secret
Sa Calobra is one of the more difficult beaches to get to owing to some pretty hairy roads, which makes the experience more of an adventure. Set at the end of the Torrent de Pareis, the small beach is lodged between two rock faces making it one of Mallorca’s most breathtaking beaches. The beach consists of sand and pebbles and the water is remarkably clear. Voted best place to come to get away from the sun lounger and beach bar culture in Mallorca.

East Mallorca - pretty coves
The east coastline boasts some of the most remote, prettiest little bays although there are also a couple of tourist resorts with soft sandy beaches in the area.
Cala Mesquida Beach - a large beach surrounded by natural beauty
Cala Mesquida is famous for its picture-perfect beach and the surrounding sand dunes. Although there is no resort here as such, there’s a complex and a couple of beach bars and restaurants nearby. It’s the kind of beach where you just want to lounge around in the sun without all the distractions of watersports and other commercial activities.

Situated in Mondragó Natural Park, one of Mallorca’s most famous natural parks, Mondragó Beach offers peace and quiet. The rocky coves are popular amongst snorkellers and it’s the bay of choice for many yachts that you will find anchoring a little further out. Bird lovers, keep your eyes peeled for the many different bird species that take residence in the surrounding park. As you can imagine watersports don’t really fit in with the vibe here.

Portals Nous Beach - luxury & watersports
Portals Nous Beach is located right next to the prestigious Puerto Portals, so it attracts a high calibre clientele. The bay is pretty sheltered offering perfect swimming conditions with some glorious turquoise patches. Watersports facilities are good here, from (SUP) paddleboarding and pedalo hire through to jet skiing available from the neighbouring harbour. There’s the choice of a beach bar and a trendy beach club on the beach, or you can dine at one of the many first class restaurants in the port.

Illetas Beach - turquoise waters and a famous beach club
There are actually three beaches within the vicinity of the resort of Illetas, all of which are equally stunning with calm crystalline turquoise waters. The main beach is the largest and most visited, and has a good quality restaurant and a famous beach club to keep its visitors well fed and watered. Be warned, due to increasing popularity this beach gets extremely busy in the summer months, so you will need to arrive early for sun loungers.

Portals Vells Beach - a real beauty
A hidden gem between Magaluf and Port Adriano, Portals Vells beach is well worth the windy roads you encounter on the commute. It is one of the most beautiful beaches on the southwestern coastline, so it's no surprise that the bay is inundated with yachts in the summer months. The soft sandy beach, unique rock formations and mysterious caves attract locals and those ‘in the know’ who are willing to travel a little further to find the perfect beach.

The largest beach on Mallorca’s southern coastline, Playa de Palma borders tourist hot spot S’Arenal so has all the facilities one could want. There are also plenty of other watersports like speed boat rides for the adrenaline junkies out there.

Cala Pi Beach - a local treat oozing natural beauty
Away from the hustle and bustle of Mallorca’s tourist resorts, Cala Pi is the perfect choice for peace and quiet in the south of the island. The narrow sandy beach extends quite a way inland which means it's never overcrowded. The bay is sheltered due to a long torrent of dramatic rocks out to sea and the shallow waters make it a haven for families with young children. This is a beach for those who want to experience Mallorca’s natural beauty, so you won’t find all the commercial facilities you would see on Mallorca’s most touristy beaches. Note this is not a good choice for those who struggle with steps, as there is a steep staircase to access the beach.

Famous for its rugged mountainous coastline, cliff edges dominate the area on the west coastline which means that there are just a few precious beaches to visit.
Camp de Mar Beach - the perfect beach holiday
A beach within a small coastal resort close to Andratx, Camp de Mar has all the amenities one might want from a beach holiday. Top notch seafood restaurants, beach bars and a shop. The beach itself is of medium size with fine golden sand and green-blue waters. You can even dine in the middle of the sea as there is a restaurant which you can only reach by crossing a wooden bridge.

Port de Sóller Beach - a family haven
Port de Sóller’s horseshoe bay incorporates a quaint fishing port town with two lovely sandy beaches. The main beach is nearer the busy part of town, its 200m long and covered with fine-grained, golden sand. Due to the bay being extremely sheltered, the water is always calm making it ideal for families. Pedaloes and kayaks are available for hire making it easy to explore the stunning bay. Another smaller sand and pebbled stone beach called Platja d'en Repic is just a bit further away from the town and offers a quieter setting.
