Best beaches to visit in Mallorca this summer
The island of Mallorca boasts more than 250 beaches around its beautiful coastline, many of them with the prestigious Blue Flag. From long stretches of golden sand to secluded rocky coves, there is something for everyone.
What you can be sure of is that they all boast turquoise, crystalline waters which are at the perfect temperature for some swimming or to try out a new watersport. To help you decide which to visit on a trip to the island, here are our top picks.
The beaches of north Mallorca are among the island’s most beautiful, with long sandy bays and hidden coves backed by mountains. Resorts are always close by, between which you will find more tranquil coves and bays with crystalline waters. Around the Bay of Alcúdia, beaches such as Platja de Muro offer kilometres of fine sand and shallow turquoise water ideal for swimming. Near Pollença and Formentor, smaller coves sit beneath pine forests and cliffs, creating peaceful, scenic spots perfect for relaxing and enjoying Mallorca’s natural beauty.
Cala Formentor, an early luxury destination in Mallorca, was favored by prominent figures such as Audrey Hepburn, Charlie Chaplin and Winston Churchill. Its crescent-shaped, golden sandy beach bordered by tranquil turquoise waters, lush pine forest, and mountain views make it a stunning spot to visit.
Easily accessible and popular with tourists and locals alike, this long stretch of coast line from Puerto Pollensa to Alcudia makes for a beautiful drive or cycle. Hugging the beachside all the way around the crescent shaped bay, the road presents fantastic views towards Cap Formentor, Cap Pinar and all the way out to sea.
Situated at the end of a 40-minute hike north of Puerto Pollença, Cala Boquer (also known as Vall de Boquer or Boquer Valley) is a beautiful secluded rocky bay with clear, refreshing water and abundant sea life. A wonderful snorkellers paradise.
Take a coastal stroll or cycle to the little hidden gem Platya des Morer Vermell just north of Alcudia, with its white sand and calm waters perfect for snorkelling.
There is a 5km patch of isolated coast between Playa Son Baulo and Son Serra de Marina in North Mallorca that is known as Playa de Son Real. It is a rough stretch of coastline that is mostly made up of pebbly inlets and rocky outcrops, but interspersed with them is a scattering of the holy grail of beaches – tiny perfect white sandy coves with easy access to the turquoise sea.
Stretching along the coastline between Son Serra de Marina and S’Estanyol, is one of Mallorca’s most beautiful and natural beaches. Due to its slight inaccessibility and the fact that it is relatively unknown by tourists this gem of a beach is quiet even in the peak of summer.
The beaches here are wilder and less developed, with dramatic scenery and clear blue water. Along the coast near Cala Ratjada and Capdepera, small coves such as Cala Agulla and Cala Mesquida sit between pine forests, sand dunes and rocky headlands. The water is exceptionally clear, making the area popular for swimming and snorkelling while still retaining a peaceful, natural feel.

Situated between the towns of Can Picafort and Colonia de Sant Pere at the eastern end of Alcudia’s bay, lies the small seaside resort of Son Serra de Marina. The beach here is called ‘Sa Canova’ and is often referred to as a ‘Dreamland’ thanks to its hazy mountain views and luminescent sea.

The beach at Son Baulo is a good antidote to the heaving masses and consumerism of neighbouring Ca’n Picafort. Still busy and still boasting everything you need, Son Baulo has managed to retain some character and a bit more class than its larger and better-known neighbour.
Canyamel beach gives visitors a small but perfectly formed, golden sandy beach within the quiet holiday resort of Canyamel.
Cala Mesquida is a fairly remote beach, located in the north-east of Mallorca, around 15km from Arta and famous for its picture-perfect beach with lovely white sand and crystal-clear waters.
The beaches of north-west Mallorca are smaller and more dramatic, framed by the mountains of the Serra de Tramuntana. Many are pebbly coves with clear, deep water and striking cliffs. Cala Deia is a very beautiful small rocky cala with clear waters and rock pools, one of the few beaches on the west coast of Mallorca. It's quite a rugged beach here so you might need to bring a chair or a lilo to lie on.
One of Mallorca’s most talked about treasures, Sa Calobra, forms an unusual cove found at the head of a gorge of the Torrent de Pareis. Its curious location and dramatic surroundings have inspired artists for many years and still do today.
The Port of Soller offers the only sandy beaches on the west coast of Majorca. This lovely little resort offers two beaches along it's horseshoe bay, all with golden sands and clear blue seas.
The east coastline boasts some of the most remote, prettiest little bays although there are also a couple of tourist resorts with soft sandy beaches in the area. Sa Coma is a large and popular beach located five kilometres from Porto Cristo in the east of Majorca. Being one of the island’s resort-based beaches, it is situated in a relatively built-up area which means it unsurprisingly becomes very busy at peak times.
The largest of eight beaches in the region, this beach spans over a kilometre in length and is approximately 30 metres wide. Whilst it’s fairly busy during the summer months, if you can visit during their ‘off-season’, you’ll find a generous white sand beach with beautiful turquoise water.
Cala Romantica is a picturesque cala with turquoise water and golden sand on the east coast of Mallorca.
Surrounded by glorious pine forest and the mountains of the Llevant Natural Park, this scenic beach is around 500 metres long and 50 metres wide. Enjoying its ‘Blue Flag' status, Cala Agulla offers bright, fine sand and clear water with a turquoise hue. This beautiful spot attracts both tourists and locals alike with its wild beauty and combination of sand dunes, pine trees and desert plants.
Cala Varques (also known as Cala Barques) is a quiet, untouched beach about 12 km south of Porto Cristo, on the east coast of Majorca. This beach continues to grow in popularity, with more visitors now than ever before. Despite the summer crowds and 15 minutes’ walk to get there, this beach is well worth your visit.
Cala Ratjada is a purpose built holiday resort in the north east of Mallorca, popular with northern Europeans. Cala Moll is the south of the resort and Cala Gat to the north.
Think long, sandy, that are ideal for sunbathing and water sports. Areas like Palma Nova, Magaluf, and Cala Pi feature wide golden sands and shallow, calm waters. Many beaches are lined with palm trees and promenades, offering restaurants and amenities, while quieter coves tucked between cliffs provide more secluded spots. The south coast combines vibrant resort life with peaceful natural corners.
Sheltered and protected from the winds, Cala Pi sits nestled between two tall rocky cliffs, with its name 'Pi' deriving from the pine trees bordering its clifftops. You can often see yachts moored at the end of the cove, further enhancing its already picture-perfect visual appeal.
Spread over a continuous stretch of Mallorca’s southeast coastline, the beach resort of Cala d'Or is made up of several inlets and a group of beaches that can be found in smaller coves, more commonly known as ‘calas’.

Also known as Platja de Sa Ràpita, an alternative to Es Trenc is the beautiful neighbouring beach at S’Arenal de sa Rapita in the southeast of Majorca. It is much quieter than Es Trenc, and is popular with families, surfers and windsurfers.
If you are looking for a beach where you can get away from it all, then Es Carbo may be the one for you. A 30 minute walk east from Colonia St Jordi in the south of Mallorca, it is a vast stretch of white sand that sits in a protected bay.
Found on the west side of Mallorca’s most southern tip, Es Caragol is wonderful if you enjoy sunbathing somewhere a little more remote than your usual tourist spot.
The beaches here are famous for their calm, shallow waters and natural beauty. The Es Trenc beach is a long stretch of white sand, often compared to the Caribbean. Nearby coves like Cala Pi de la Posada and Cala Blava are quieter and framed by dunes or cliffs. This region is ideal for swimming, sunbathing, and peaceful walks along unspoiled coastal landscapes.
Escape the crowds on the beaches of Cala d'Or by heading 3 km north to the bay of Cala Sa Nau. This relaxed beach is surrounded by pine trees and is very picturesque.
Calo d'es Burgit is a small bay on the south east coast of Mallorca, just around the corner from Cala Mondrago and within the protected Mondrago Natural Park.
Located in a pretty cove with lovely fine sand, surrounded by rocky cliffs and pine forests, it’s no wonder Cala Santanyi is such a popular beach amongst those staying within the large resort-style hotels in this area. It's more than likely to be crowded with the lucky holidaymakers who have tumbled out of their hotel bedrooms onto the sand directly below.
S’Amarador is an award-winning glorious white sand beach that is part of the protected Mondrago National Park (south east Majorca, close to Cala d'Or), and so is beautifully unspoilt.
Unbeknown to most foreigners, this super beach is mainly visited by those who live or rent in the surrounding area, making it somewhat of a local delicacy away from hoards of tourists.
Considered one of Mallorca's most beautiful areas with its sand dunes, pine forests, beautiful coastline and rocky coves, Cala Mondrago, (often referred to as ‘Caló de n’Alis’) has formed part of Mondrago National Park since 1992, greatly benefitting from the disallowing of any further development.
The beaches of south-west Mallorca are a mix of scenic coves and lively resort stretches. Around Andratx and Port d'Andratx, small beaches like Cala Llamp and Cala d'Egos sit beneath cliffs and pine-covered hills. The waters are clear and calm, perfect for swimming and snorkeling, whilst beaches near Sant Elm offer peaceful, natural spots away from crowds, making the south-west coast both picturesque and relaxing.
Sant Elm has the largest sand beach in the south-west corner of Mallorca, beyond Andratx.
Only 9km from the capital of Palma, Illetas is a holiday resort claiming three picture-perfect beaches. Illetas beach is the main beach, and is more sheltered than the huge stretch of sand that makes up the beach in front of Palma's cathedral, making this one of the nicest beaches in the Bay of Palma.
The beach at Santa Ponsa is a lovely golden sandy beach in the heart of the resort, backed by shady pine trees for when you need some respite from the heat.
Follow a rugged track through pine wood forest to find this beautiful cove on the western tip of Palma Bay. No public transport will bring you here, so you’ll need to taxi through Calvia’s residential streets, or drive from Magaluf or Palma Nova before walking the last stretch to the bay. Ultimately, the best way to arrive here is on the water by boat, with a decent depth and sandy seabed both perfect for anchoring.
Portixol is found just to the east of Palma's cathedral and is home to a little bay within which a little sand and shingle beach known as D'es Portitxolet Beach resides. The water is generally calm here due to the sheltered nature of the bay.
Playa Oratori is the popular local beach for Portals Nous and Puerto Portals.
The beaches here are dramatic and often tucked into rocky coves along the Serra de Tramuntana mountains. Famous for its rugged mountainous coastline, cliff edges dominate the area on the west coastline which means that there are just a few precious beaches to visit. Spots like Cala Deià, Cala Banyalbufar, and Torrent de Pareis offer crystal-clear waters framed by cliffs and pine trees. Many are small and quiet, ideal for swimming, snorkeling, or enjoying Mallorca’s rugged natural beauty away from the busier resort areas.
Offering a distinctly different experience from the more typical Mallorcan beaches, Banyalbufar is carved into the dramatic foothills of the Serra de Tramuntana. This small bay bears a few signs of regular usage, with terraced slopes and protective structures that blend harmoniously with the natural surroundings. Once difficult to access, Cala Banyalbufar is now easily reachable via a windy round, allowing all to discover its quiet beauty.
Cala Deia is a very beautiful small rocky cala with clear waters and rock pools, one of the few beaches on the west coast of Mallorca. It's quite a rugged beach here so you might need to bring a chair or a lilo to lie on.
Tucked around the corner from Port d'Andratx, Cala Llamp Bay offers one of Mallorca’s most superb views. High cliffs from the surrounding Tramuntana mountains, create the crescent shaped bay filled with calm and beautifully clear water.
The small resort town of Ciudad Jardin lies around five kilometres east of Palma. Its beach, also commonly referred to as ‘Ciutat Jardi’, lies alongside a quiet promenade lined with palm trees, offering a huge variety of different styled bars and restaurants.
Cala Falco is a very pretty and small beach, surrounded by rocky outlets and pine. It is most famous for the trendy beach bar and restaurant that sits in the middle, attracting some of Mallorca's most affluent clientele. situated in the south west of Mallorca. The sea is clear and shallow, and the beach is narrow but deep,
The closest beach to Palma is at Ca'n Pere Antoni. This stretch of golden sandy beach starts just beyond the cathedral. A promenade and cycle path runs along its length but behind these lies the main road that takes you to Palma airport.
